🌲 Design Concept: "Ranch of the Sun"
The design concept of this house evolved after seeing a remote lakeside property, surrounded by rolling hills covered with tall evergreens – Thurs, Wisconsin.
An open interior space with a small entrance place. The house has a very open kitchen, dining room, and family room. The main vaulted ceiling gives the occupants a sense of more space. The family room opens onto a deck area overlooking North Lake.
South windows were limited to reduce solar heat inside. Geothermal water pumps provide heating and cooling, plus hot water. All rooms have ceiling fans and operable windows for natural cooling at night. All appliances and accessories are water-saving.
"Ranch of the Sun" is relatively inconspicuous, mighty active solar heat and passive cooling to one traditional suburban area height-adjustable basic box. The design pops up from five 10ft placements and rescaling 20ft module with function label. The resulting basic hull configuration enables flexible solar power arrangements and various floor plans and elevations.
Key solar features include: a Mylar "space blanket" vapor barrier (80% heat reflection), cooling tower and semi-automatic active liquid convection solar heating system for a 4,000-ton area, 8,000 heating degree days. This system can build 10 or more charges million BTS. 10 x 320 square meter wall mounted collector box containing approximately 2,000 feet of 1-inch coated low emissivity/high absorption copper tubing, covered with tempered Low-E glass, using antifreeze as a medium.
Heat storage is pressurized, insulated, 2,500 gallon painted concrete storage tanks, installed vertically in the basement under the corridor. If basement is not feasible, coated steel tank can stand horizontally in the garage.
Other solar heating components include: (1) distribution system with two thermostatically controlled zones, radiant ground coil with backup furnace, temperature-controlled storage bypass. (2) Collector's night sign: store to collector bypass and one-way valve. (3) household water heating: preheating chilled water supply by coil looped in therm buffer tank with electric backup water heater.
All rooms have ceiling fans and windows that can be opened to allow natural cooling at night. All appliances and accessories are water-saving.
